Mayor Sindisiwe Msomi Condemns In The Strongest Terms the Rape Of An 84 Year Old Woman
A 21-year-old man was arrested after he fell asleep soon after allegedly raping an 84-year-old woman.
The man, who forcefully gained entry to her home while she was asleep in Esibizane Village, at Newtonville location in Creighton under ward 8 of Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality, allegedly overpowered the granny and raped her several times, said Mayor Sindisiwe Msomi.
“We have so many immoral people who take advantage of senior citizens. Elderly persons are living in fear as they are attacked and raped while in their homes. We find solace that this criminal was found sleeping at the crime scene,” Mayor said.
The neighbour was awoken by his dogs that were barking none stop. The neighbor saw the old woman who told him that there was a man in her house.
“The neighbour went into the house and found the perpetrator sleeping naked with all his clothes on the floor with a can of alcohol beverage,” said the Department of Social Development.
A team of social workers have been dispatched to provide psycho-social support to the elderly woman and her family for trauma debriefing and containment.
Mayor Msomi condemns the crime and calls for a lengthy sentence to be handed to the perpetrator.
The case is at Ixopo Magistrate court and has been scheduled for the 25 October 2022. The offender is under custody.
