Municipal Statement:
In an effort to create and enhance active and meaningful participation of men in the fight against Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Domestic Violence and Sexual offences, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality, will on Friday 28 October 2022, hold a first of its kind Imbizo ya Madoda Imbizo for Men.
This unique community engagement is expected to be attended mainly by men who reside in ward 8, and other men around the jurisdiction of the municipality. Community of ward 8 has reported some of the highest GBV cases.
Community policing structures, law enforcement agencies and the South African Police Service (SAPS) are some of stakeholders that will engage men who are often perpetrators of gender based violence, on the role they can and should play, in the prevention and combating of what has been described as the second pandemic in our country.
Furthermore, the Imbizo will endeavour to explore opportunities for multi-sector collaborations aimed at addressing the stated challenge of gender based violence.
